Now in its sixth year, the achievement celebrates hospitality businesses that have earned great traveler reviews on TripAdvisor over the past year. Certificate of Excellence recipients include accommodations, eateries and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a quality customer experience.

I came to know that Barcelona is filled to the brim with various ApartHotel concepts. Which I also came to know is an apartment style room with hotel style service thus – “ApartHotel” and I had the pleasure of discovering this concept at one of Barcelona’s best – ‘Aparthotel Silver’ located just a short walk away from the main Catalunya strip, infact we walked to our dinner reservations one of the nights as it was so close by in the main hub, also close by is Casa Batlló one of Gaudi’s designs

 Gaudí himself said: “The expiatory church of La Sagrada Família is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people.”


The expiatory church of La Sagrada Família is a work on a grand scale which was begun on 19 March 1882 from a project by the diocesan architect Francisco de Paula del Villar (1828-1901). At the end of 1883 Gaudí was commissioned to carry on the works, a task which he did not abandon until his death in 1926. Since then different architects have continued the work after his original idea.

The building is in the centre of Barcelona, and over the years it has become one of the most universal signs of identity of the city and the country.
Gaudí himself said: “The expiatory church of La Sagrada Família is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people.” The building is still going on and could be finished some time in the first third of the 21st century.


Gaudí architectural treasure


Casa Batlló, built between 1904 and 1906 in the heart of the city, is the most emblematic work of the brilliant Catalan architect.
Gaudí gave Casa Batlló a facade that is original, fantastical and full of imagination. He replaced the original facade with a new composition of stone and glass. He ordered the external walls to be redesigned to give them a wavy shape, which was then plastered with lime mortar and covered with a mosaic of fragments of coloured glass and ceramic discs.

It’s a most unusual building, constructed between 1906 and 1912 by the architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926) and declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1984.

La Pedrera today is a beacon shining with creation and knowledge, a great container full of content, which has a crucial role to play in the transformation of society and commitment to the people.


The imprint of Picaso’s art in Barcelona


The Picasso Museum in Barcelona is a key reference for understanding the formative years of Pablo Ruiz Picasso. An architectural jewel of Catalan Art Nouveau


The only concert venue in this style to be listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (4th December 1997), which today represents an essential landmark in the cultural and social life of Catalonia. Moreover it represents a symbolic emotional heritage for a whole people who identify with its history.

The Concert Auditorium – one of the most distinctive in the world – is for more than hundred years the privileged setting for the musical life, both national and international, of the city of Barcelona. It has hosted world premieres and it’s a landmark symphonic and choral music. Dominated by the organ over the stage and with a central skylight portraying the sun, the auditorium is filled with natural light. A mystical, paradoxical hall, packed with figures like the muses which surround the stage, a bust of Anselm Clavé on one side and Beethoven on the other, and hundreds of natural motifs, including flowers, palms, fruit, jars and cases filled with jewels.


Catedral de Santa Eulalia de Barcelona


Barcelona’s Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral or the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, is a famous example of Catalan Gothic architecture dating from the fourteenth century. Despite staying in the shadow of the well-known Sagrada Familia, the cathedral is an impressive Gothic church able to seduce its visitors.


Wavy shapes, columns that looks like trees, animal figures and geometric shapes. Most of the surfaces are decorated with mosaics made with colorful ceramic pieces.


Located in the city of Barcelona, the ​​Park Guell is one of the most beautiful icons of the city.It’s a work of Antoni Gaudi located in the upper part of Barcelona, which has wondererful views of the city.

Sta Caterina Market, Sta Maria del Mar church, Centre Cultural El Borne


El Born  is one of the most historic neighborhoods in the city. The District of La Ribera was already a hot spot, “época mitjeval”, from the twelfth century to the end of XIII was the area who became all the festivities and gatherings, parades, festivals and even tournaments with Knights and nobles of the city. The whole place concentrated, social and economic activity, and was the center of small artisans, where they meet the unions of all trades, shops, shopkeepers and merchants. 

Un hotel no es un parking de personas

En una ocasión oí a un colega del sector comentar: …. Al fin y al cabo un hotel es un parking de personas…Nada mas lejos de la realidad!

En mi experiencia como director de un pequeño hotel puedo constatar que el “factor humano” es y será el componente de más peso en la prestación de nuestro servicio

Cada año tengo la oportunidad de manejar un millar y pico de encuestas hechas de puño y letra por nuestros clientes (algunas incluyen dibujos, esquemas, propuestas  para mejorar el confort, o traducciones en su idioma porque han visto en la papelería algún error)

Hoy un hotel tiene la posibilidad de ver online, decenas de comentarios de sus clientes colgados en los principales foros de viajes o centrales de reservas.Esta valiosa información, además de resaltar los pros y contras que el cliente ve en nuestro negocio, pone de manifiesto la importancia que elllos otorga al trato y la atención recibida

Y es que no podemos olvidar que todos queremos “sentirnos” clientes cuando estamos consumiendo un servicio.

Personalmente soy un fan de todo el entorno de Internet…. Pero de nada sirve vender nuestro negocio con fotografias, videos, tours virtuales, motores de reserva automática, guias turisticas, 2.0 y lo que venga… si cuando el cliente llaga al hotel no hay la “conversión” de una expectativa creada en el entorno virtual, en  una experiencia de comunicación en el mundo real

Los seres humanos somos sociables por naturaleza y la comunicación directa (verbal o no verbal) tiene un impacto superior a la cartelería o a cualquier medio digital

La comunicación humana es sin duda compleja y capaz de transmitir multitud de “inputs” complementarios al mensaje principal (emocion, acuerdo, discordancia, seducción,…) Todo esto no es posible a traves de la tecnología

En los hoteles (y casi todos los negocios), muchas veces somos rehenes de los procedimientos de trabajo que nos obligan a centrar nuestra atención en las pantallas, las fichas, los lectores, las copias de seguridad, los comunicados internos y un largo sinfín. Y en esos momentos; no por falta de interés,  sino porque seguramente nadie nos ha enseñado a gestionar el tiempo, no prestamos la debida atención al cliente que  está delante nuestro demandando alguna petición o sugerencia; o sencillamente nos intenta transmitir su agradecimiento por haber tenido una estancia agradable. A ese cliente que durante semanas ha sido una previsión, un proceso,  o una proyección en el mundo virtual, pero que ahora en una persona real en el mundo real y que esta disfrutando de un servicio real que nosotros le estamos ofreciendo.

Es evidente que en un hotel (como en todos los negocios) se tiene que hacer un permanente esfuerzo por estar al día, para que todo esté en orden y todo funcione. En definitiva hay que hacer mucho para que el cliente no note nada

Generalmente percibimos lo negativo de una manera singular y en cambio parece que nos pasa desapercibido todo aquello que si funciona…… pero no es cierto.

Como clientes tenemos una percepción global del entorno fisico y del servicio y muchas veces no sabemos exactamente por qué motivos concretos, pero tenemos grabada una “sensación” que engloba muchos inputs: el comfort, la limpieza, el ambiente del hotel..

Esa percepción global va acompañada también de impresiones muy concretas que pueden ir centradas en alguna singularidad del hotel, de su entorno, y sobre todo si la atención y el trato han estado a la altura de sus expectativas o mejor aún si las ha superado. Este último aspecto (el trato) siempre queda en el recuerdo del cliente de una manera singularizada aunque no lo manifieste

Muchas veces me quedo sorprendido viendo algunos comentarios de los clientes del hotel en foros de viajes, blogs, etc  por la exactitud de sus descripciones y la generosidad de sus relatos…

En definitiva, la atención y la comunicación con nuestros clientes es sin duda  ser una experiencia enriquecedora para las partes (Les aseguro que cada año en el hotel aprendemos un millón de historias

interesantes, curiosas, y sorprendentes…)

La experiencia me demuestra que la sencillez en las formas y la cordialidad son la mejor receta para provocar ese maravilloso feedback  que hace  agradable y muchas veces divertido nuestro trabajo
